When the Winter Olympics ended last year in Vancouver I felt very weird, like an addict suddenly cut off. All of a sudden the crowds disappeared from the downtown streets and all returned to normal. No more pavilions, gold medal parties, or free outdoor concerts. No more columns of light shining into my bedroom window from False Creek at night.
The Winter Olympics are coming back to Vancouver on February 12! Well, not really, but definitely in spirit. There will be a bunch of fun stuff taking place around Vancouver and area. I think I’m most excited about the Olympic Cauldron being lit again at the Jack Poole Plaza at 4pm at the foot of Thurlow Street. To celebrate this first anniversary I found some videos I took during the Olympics around Vancouver that I haven’t posted yet. I will be posting them over the next few days. The short video below (about 5 minutes) is from my visit to the Four Host First Nations Pavilion when the group Adjágas performed. They are from northern Norway and belong to the Sami people. I found them, their voices and music very natural, honest and friendly. Take a look and have a listen to a sample of their music in my video below (just click on it).
