Almost Home from my Vegas Road Trip

May 28, 2010

Continued from Bart Leaves Las Vegas – Day 2.
My third day On the Road (have you read that book, by Kerouac?). I spent the night in Oregon, just north of Eugene. It was a mild night, a nice change from the freezing Nevada nights. See my short video report (about one minute) below.

I was driving from Nevada, through northern California, then Oregon. It got dark and I was really tired of driving through the mountains because it was up and down, with some crazy turns. I thought that my poor Buick would lose its front suspension from all that! But luckily it didn’t happen. In fact, I was passing all these new cars and trucks. I guess it doesn’t matter what equipment you have, but rather how you use it!

Around late evening in south Oregon I stopped at a truck station, filled up on gas, had a bite to eat at Subway there, brushed my teeth, and was even tempted by the shower stalls, but I decided that I did not yet smell like some homeless guy, and so jumped back in my car and kept driving to the destination I chose for myself on the map. You can see the place in the short video above. After visiting an outlet mall in Washington state and getting some booze at duty free I arrived home in Vancouver in the evening on Easter Sunday. Here’s the complete route I took to drive from Vegas to Vancouver.

Some people have asked me why I didn’t have any videos from Las Vegas itself – action, if you will. Well, Vegas is so popular in North America, and probably the world, that if you want to see what the hotels look like, or what goes on inside them and their casinos, you can easily find it on the internet. In fact, if you use Google street view you’ll see it all! And if that’s not enough for you, here are some of my favorite Vegas-related movies:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (Johnny Depp is awesome in this one)
Leaving Las Vegas (a bit disturbing, but Nicholas Cage is great)
Viva Las Vegas (not my favorite, but all of you desirous of Elvis will enjoy this harmless classic)
Diamonds are Forever (James Bond, need I say more?)
Rain Man (Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman pack a powerful punch)
Swingers (one of my ultimate favorites!)
Vegas Vacation (National Lampoons! Classic Chevy Chase! Mr. Papa Gorgio, haha!)
…and the list goes on. I’m sure you get my drift.
