Bart Visits the Pan Pacific Pavilion at the Vancouver Winter Olympics

February 17, 2010

Ok, I admit it. I have strayed from my original promise to keep my videos to two or three minutes. The videos below at the Pan Pacific Pavilion are about five minutes each, but I would have done a half hour at least, if I could. In the videos I speak with some of the Aboriginal People who are showing their skills there. I found it really interesting because they are very informative. Nelson, who I met and is introduced in the videos, is an excellent speaker and very well versed in his culture. I encourage you to watch the videos if you have even a bit of interest in Canada’s original people.

I visited the Pan Pacific Pavilion by accident. By that I mean that I didn’t know about it. I just decided to walk by Canada Place in downtown Vancouver on my way back home from Canada’s Northern House (you can see the video here Bart Visits Canada’s Northern House at the Vancouver Winter Olympics). As I was walking past the Pan Pacific Hotel I thought I remembered a line up here a couple of days ago. I was curious so I went into the hotel, and because of the large walls erected in the lobby, the only way I could go was up the escalator. So I did, and after arriving at the top floor in the main hall of the hotel I encountered the Pan Pacific Pavilion displays set up by the Aboriginal People of the West Coast. I’m very glad I did as I found it to be an excellent experience, probably because I have an interest in Aboriginal and Native Peoples cultures. And some great Canadian heritage. I highly recommend you visit. It’s free, and there’s a restaurant with a great view on the North Shore mountains just beside the exhibits.

Nelson is a Chehalis Nation Artist and Craftsman in Agassiz BC, and you can reach him at traditionalservice(at)gmail(dot)com for inquiries about his work. And if you’re interested in learning more about Canada’s West Coast Aboriginal People, you might consider visiting www.aboriginalbc.com.
