Last year, almost to the date, I took a road trip to Potholes Reservoir, near Moses Lake, in Washington state. I spent four days there, just taking it easy, thinking, planning, and enjoying some great fire roasted sausages, and rum and cokes to go with the hot weather. Even though I keep thinking of the trip, and thinking of doing it again, I forgot that I had taken some videos while there. As I was organizing my files I found them! So I took a quick edit to them and decided to post something from my trip video archives. There are two very short videos. The first, below (3 min 24 sec) gives a short introduction to the area, with great views. Check it out:

The second short video (2 min 2 sec), below is interesting in a toilet humor kind of way. In the first video above you may have seen the small toilet pit I dug. Well, after ‘using it’, shall we say, I spotted this snake literally a foot from me. This discovery happened at a very inconvenient time, and I had to conclude things promptly. Naturally, the first thing I did was run for my camera. Don’t ask and I’ll provide no in-between details. ‘Nuff said. Take a look below (don’t worry, it’s safe):

The snake that discovered me was in fact a Gopher Snake. A non-venomous impersonator of the Western Rattle Snake. This is a good start to learning more about both kinds of snakes, in case you’re camping or hiking through the region: http://www.bentler.us/eastern-washington/animals/reptiles/snakes/rattlesnakes.aspx
